I’m a new mom and I’m appealing Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona’s decision to deny claims for a medically necessary cesarean section to deliver my daughter Lily in August of 2009. I’m hoping to reach out to as many other parents as possible to share my story and make them aware of what their own insurance policies may and may not cover. I was shocked to learn that BCBSAZ would not cover my medically necessary c-section because as of October 1, 2008 BCBSAZ no longer considers “fetal distress” to be a complication of pregnancy.
My husband and I now face medical bills in excess of $30,000 and have spent countless hours in the appeals process. Please share my story with friends and family, especially those that are self-employed and purchase individual health insurance.
